Sneaky foods that stain your teeth

We all know that drinking coffee, tea and red wine can cause discoloration in your teeth. But a surprising number of other foods and drinks have hidden staining power, too. For the whitest smile, make sure you rinse or brush after consuming these items:

  • Colored sodas – the acid and sugar make staining even more likely;
  • Dark – colored fruit juices, like grape juice;
  • Tomato sauce – it’s full of acid that eats through your enamel;
  • Dark – colored berries, such as blueberries or blackberries;
  • Beets, particularly in concentrated juices;
  • Red and yellow curry;
  • Colored hard candies and Popsicle – if it turns your tongue a bright color, it likely is affecting your teeth, too;
  • Acidic condiments, including balsamic vinegar, ketchup and soy sauce;

As always, be sure to talk with a dentist on your True Care dental plan to learn more about why certain foods and drinks can stain your teeth. Armed with this knowledge, you can have a brighter smile today.
